Basic virology, immunology, the pathophysiology of HIV/AIDS, and the development of antiretroviral medicines have all seen great advances in recent years. In phase I/II clinical studies, more than 35 vaccine candidates are examined, including more than one thousand volunteers. Two phase III clinical trials have also been conducted, involving more than 7,500 volunteers each. Multiple vaccine ideas and vaccination ways are tested, as well as DNA vaccine, subunit vaccine, live recombinant vaccine, several prime boost vaccine combinations. This article discusses the current state of HIV vaccine research, summarizes the results to date, and discusses about the difficulties that remain in the development of the many vaccine candidates., AIDS, Clinical trials,
