STRENGTHENING FINANCIAL SYSTEM INTEGRITY THROUGH INTEGRATED ACCOUNTING ANALYTICS AND CYBERSECURITY CONTROLS: THE CASE OF COMMERCIAL BANKS IN GHANA

This article investigates the relationship between integrated accounting analytics, cybersecurity controls, and financial system integrity in commercial banks operating in Ghana. Drawing on a comprehensive review of current literature and empirical evidence from banking sectors in Africa and globally, we develop and propose a framework that demonstrates how robust cybersecurity governance, coupled with advanced accounting information systems analytics, significantly enhances the integrity and reliability of financial reporting while mitigating operational and compliance risks in banking institutions. Using multiple regression analysis on panel data from selected Ghanaian commercial banks, the study establishes statistically significant positive relationships between cybersecurity control maturity, accounting information system quality, internal audit effectiveness, and overall financial system integrity metrics including financial reporting quality, fraud prevention, and operational stability. The findings reveal that operational risk management represents the most critical factor influencing bank performance in the Ghanaian context, explaining 99.24% of performance variability, while effective internal controls and cybersecurity frameworks provide critical assurance mechanisms that enhance stakeholder confidence and institutional resilience. The research contributes to emerging market banking literature by providing empirical evidence that integrated governance frameworks combining digital security controls with advanced analytics serve as essential mechanisms for strengthening financial system integrity in African banking sectors. Policy recommendations emphasize the need for stronger regulatory mandates on cybersecurity governance, investment in advanced accounting analytics capabilities, and enhanced coordination between internal audit, risk management, and compliance functions.
