AN ANTI-FOUNDATIONALIST CRITIQUE OF RENE DESCARTE

The problem of true knowledge which began in the Ionian era has remained till this our present time in history of philosophy. This challenge emerged due to the inability of the ancient philosophical epoch to reconcile the position or the foundation of true knowledge in the human intellect. This irreconcilable theories gave rise to what we currently have as skepticism. However, in the formation of philosophy today, there are several skeptics who tries at every point in time to debunk every philosophical theory. This philosophic incongruence       has lead philosophers like Descartes to write his meditation with the aim of finding out what he knew for sure; this certain truth would be the foundation of knowledge. Descartes believes that the senses are deceptive and therefore accept reason as the very source of certainty. Through this means Descartes fields a rationalist foundation for truth which builds on the cogito ergo sum. Nevertheless, as a rationalist philosopher, Descartes sought clarity and certainty in knowledge. He saw that there is no clarity and certainty in philosophy. For that reason he was worried about certainty in philosophy. He then declared that nothing exist including himself; but due to his thinking nature, he actually exists.
