ASSESSMENT OF REGULATORY COMPLIANCE OF TANZANIA’S LEGAL REGIME FOR MARINE PLASTIC POLLUTION CONTROL IN TANZANIA MAINLAND
Tanzania is among of the critical country in the west of the Indian Ocean. The country is possessed with maritime resources and a considerable coastline of about 1500 Kilometres. The needs of people living in the coast depend on the consumption of resources of the ocean. The country is facing a tragedy current and potential danger of marine plastic pollution caused by human activities from the land base and ships calling its ports and terminals using the west Indian Ocean route, on top of that land based activities developments in the country and within East Africa region is among of the factor to problem. In order to archieve objective of this study on sustainable use of the oceans and its resources, this aticle provides a regulatory compliance of Tanzania’s legal framework for marine plastic pollution control in Tanzania mainland. Specifically, the article assesses national legislation in the light of international agreements. The article helps as a focal point in the analysis of the established legal regime and institutional framework for purposes of improving the status of marine plastic pollution control.
