Level of knowledge and perception of parents about the use of toothpaste in their children. Huaraz, Perú
Parents are fundamental pieces in the proper development of their children, so they must be properly informed about the correct use of toothpaste. The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and the perception of parents about the use of toothpaste in their children, in the city of Huaraz, 2024. A quantitative, cross-sectional and relational study was carried out in a sample of 211 parents from the I.E.I. N° 286 “Villón Alto”. Data were collected through a validated questionnaire and analyzed with the Chi-square test. The results showed that 94.3% of the participants were women, mostly between 31 and 40 years old. A significant relationship was evidenced between the level of knowledge and perception (p<0.01), indicating that the greater the knowledge, the better the perception of the use of toothpaste. It is concluded that the level of knowledge and the perception of parents are directly related, which reinforces the need to promote educational strategies aimed at parents to improve children’s oral health.
