The evolution and importance of Creative and Cultural Industries in Mexico

The Creative and Cultural Industries (CCIs) took on relevance again in 2021 when it was named by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the United Nations (UN) International Year of the Creative Economy for Sustainable Development at the 74th UN General Assembly. It is after the notoriety of the use of ICTs and interaction in digital media, transforming social networks as a means of social integration, adding them to other digital platforms for the economic boost of the CCIs. The pandemic generated by SARS-COV2 showed, mainly through social networks, how essential creativity is for our well-being and cultural dissemination as part of social integration. The creative economy is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the world, contributing 3% of the global GDP. Qualitative research based on grounded theory showed how creativity is also a renewable, sustainable, and unlimited resource found anywhere in the world. As we face the climate crisis and the recovery from the pandemic, its potential to drive human-centered inclusive development will be the most relevant resource; creativity will be the future of industry.
